Honeysuckle - Freedom
Freedom Honeysuckle, Lonicera 'Freedom', is resistant to the witches broom aphid that attacks other Honeysuckle. White tinged pink flowers in spring produce small, rounded red fruit in summer. Excellent hedge or background plant. Its primary use is in windbreak and shelterbelt plantings and as a background screen in large areas. The foliage is bluish-green in color with a fine texture. Plant habit is somewhat loose without pruning because of its vigorous growth rate. Its fruit is a bright red berry which provides a nice contrast with the blue-green foliage. This xeriscape plant is quite tolerant to a broad range of soil conditions but prefers a loam soil. Needs full sun for best effect. Freedom grows 8-10 feet in height and width. Honeysuckles are easy to grow, vigorous, heat-tolerant, and nearly indestructible. The flashy and fragrant flowers will attract hummingbirds and butterflies all summer long. Many honeysuckles will thrive in containers as well. ... more
