Pepper - Bell - Mandarin
The Pepper Bell Mandarin, 'Capsicum annuum (Hybrid)', has a unique glossy orange color with very sweet flavor that combines beautifully with red, yellow and green peppers in a colorful salad. Mandarin Bell Peppers turns from green to an impressive glossy, deep pumpkin-orange color. If you enjoy the sweet flavor of red and yellow peppers, you may really like the unique sweet flavor of the Mandarin. Even under cooler conditions, Mandarin produces very sweet and tasty peppers. Transplant outside in the spring 3 to 4 weeks after last frost date. Note: To get a jump on the season transplant outside, use a walls-of-water or some black plastic to maintain and increase temperatures. Pinch off early flowers to encourage plant growth. Plant in average garden soil with sufficient organic matter. Peppers use quite a bit of water but prefer to be watered deeply and not too often. Blossom pruning will improve fruit size.
